Little Known Facts about Network Marketing

by Gregory Burrus on February 28, 2010

There is quite a lot of misconception about Network Marketing, which is somewhat distressing because Network Marketing is one of the oldest forms of businesses. It was going on since a long time in the physical world; its online approach has become popular only lately. However, despite the long life that this business model has enjoyed, not many people are aware of all its aspects.

Here are a few facts about Network Marketing that you need to know.

All Network Marketing Schemes are not Legal

(click to listen while you read)

This is one of the most important things that you must know. On the Internet, you will find a lot of business models masquerading as Network Marketing businesses. They will also have flashy promotional ads and such in order to entice people. But you must know that a true Network Marketing business is only that which has a product to sell. A business that builds a network and keeps its payment wagon running through commissions but doesn’t have a product to sell is not Network Marketing. These schemes are called as pyramid schemes and they are considered illegal.

Your Network Marketing Business doesn’t depend on Just You

You might think that you hold the strings of your Network Marketing business and there’s nothing that can go wrong if you are full of energy about it. But the fact is that any Network Marketing business is only as good as the network it has. Even if one person in the network fails to deliver, the business gets a setback. Hence, you have to realize that everything here does not depend on you alone.

Any Prospect looks at the Leader, not at the Compensation Plan

This is some great advice. When you are prospecting, what do you think is the main thing that the prospect is looking at Probably you think it is the compensation plan. But the truth is that most people don’t even think about the compensation plan. They are, rather, thinking about having you as a leader. They are judging your leadership capabilities. That is because most people want a sense of security more than a good payment plan.

The Upline is not as Important as the Downline

Initially people think that the upline leaders are the most important people, but you must realize that the upline can earn only as much as the downline can give them as commissions and direct sales. Hence, it becomes very important to look at the downline. If your downline is strong, your position becomes unshakable.
