So what’s an advertorial?

Well piecing together one vendors’ description of the same name - An advertorial is an advertisement designed to simulate editorial content, while at the same time offering valid information to your prospective clients.

 

It is not a new term since it is in the Webster dictionary since 1961, and because it is true that people give more credibility to editorial content than to paid advertisements. We all glaze over and or immediately have a sense of distrust till proven feelings on advertising. However on editorial content we give it much more credibility because it is implied that the newspaper or editor has endorsed your product or service.

What are the benefits?  

Well once again they say - With the growing popularity of the Web today, advertorials are becoming more and more critical to the overall success of your business. You can distinguish your company from your competition, with a powerful advertorial. What is the basic definition of the word advertorial?

You can break the etymology of the word advertorial down per Merrian Webster - Advertorial.  The word breaks down into advertisement and editorial. So it is a blend of advertisement and editorial- as in an advertisement that imitates editorial format

 

Can you write your own advertorial?

Absolutely you can. Knowing the definition above, you write your advertisement. Then find a good editorial and reshape your advertisement to reflect a good editorial. However you must supply valid content or people will not believe it and you have wasted your time.
