To have a website for your fundraiser is to take advantage of modern technology that everyone is coming to accept as a normal part of everyday life. A website may take a while to set up - though in some cases it will only be several minutes - but you will save so much time and effort when it’s done that you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it before.
The advantages of having a website is that everyone who is involved in the fundraising effort can go there to gain the information they need without having to contact you personally. There they can see the latest rosters, who is on which team, the dates for special meetings and whatever else is relevant to your particular fundraiser.
If your fundraising is to be an ongoing thing, then your website will be the place to store photos and information of previous events. You can have your budget and annual report on your website as well as contact information for various people. You can also have your sponsors’ names and their donation details there for all to see.
Since you will have different kinds of information on your website, you will need to divide it all up onto separate pages. Then you will have links to them from your main page. Be sure to make the links as obvious as possible so that those who need the information can access it easily. Name the links something that is appropriate and have your navigation bar set to one side of the page so that it is easily seen, rather than at the bottom. People who are not used to websites sometimes forget to scroll down to the bottom and so will miss that information.
You can link to your website through your emails so that people only need to click on the link to gain desired information. This makes it really easy for them so they will be more inclined to do it.
If you decide to monetize your website, you’ll need to advertise it and this can be done using the normal means of advertising such as word-of-mouth, flyers, email, letters and in newspapers or magazines. You also need to list your site with Google, yahoo and MSN. Don’t panic; this is free and simple and you may be surprised at just how easy it becomes to sell goodies for your fundraiser.
If you are fundraising for a well-known charity, many of them will help you will setting up a website. There are also other organizations that make it easy to set up a free website for a small percentage of your profits. These are ideal if your fundraising is for something local like your school or sports team.
